Хмельницкий weekend (1, 2 августа)

Запоздалый, вымученый и скучный отчет.

Писать ужасно впадло, но надо. Посему буду краток.

Что касается города, то смотреть там откровенно не на что. Конечно, времени было немного, но мы прошлись по центру и выводы можно сделать. Вот так начинаешь ценить Киев.

Вечеринка. А мне казалось нет ничего хуже плохой попсы. Теперь-то я знаю, что есть еще аниме-техно. Посему долго мы там не выдержали. Может потом там и было что-то интересное, но для меня самым приятным моментом останется наше выступление.

Я, в отличие от большинства, не имею темного анимешного прошлого, но хочу сказать, что атмосфера на фестивале была очень приятной.
Главные впечатления, конечно, остались от собственно концерта. Я первый раз на подобном мероприятии и сравнивать не с чем, но концерт приятно удивил. В первую очередь сценки. Вторую половину концерта мы пропустили, но почти все из тех, что я видела мне понравились. Хотя я не анимешник, оный юмор мне не чужд. Особенно, конечно, впечатлила сценка по Черному Дворецкому. Костюмы просто потрясающие, но даже не это главное. Персонажи подобраны очень удачно и их умение преподать себя впечатляет. Похоже, это почувствовали многие, несмотря на то, что аниме мало кто смотрел. Кстати, я смотрю его сейчас и очень хотелось бы увидеть сценку еще раз чтобы как следует оценить. Еще очень понравился номер по Оран Хост Клаб. Я ребят уже видела в Киеве, но тогда не могла достойно заценить. Яркие персонажи, артистизм и хорошая постановка. К тому же ребята работали без записи и микрофонов. Это аниме тоже подумываю посмотреть. Ситуация с караоке обстояла несколько хуже. Была, на мой взгляд, пара совершенно отстойных номеров хотя были 2 довольно выдающихся. Наше выступление прошло неплохо. Было пару лаж, как без этого, но в целом, по-моему, мы смотрелись достойно. Особенно учитывая, что это наш дебют.
В целом, не считая полуторачасовой задержки, впечатления положительные. И себя показали и других посмотрели. Приятно знать, что аниме культура в нашей стране вышла на приличный уровень.

Было забавно смотреть как люди после концерта пошли гулять по городу в чем были, то бишь в косплее. Жителям города еще долго будет что обсуждать.

В целом, для меня поездка удалась. За исключением нескольких факторов, все прошло хорошо. Побывала в незнакомом городе, посмотрела на Аниме-фест и пообщалась с людьми.

The obligatory DBSK vs. SME rant

I'm too tired to rant about the whole DBSK vs. SME lawsuit. I don't have anything to say exept:

1 SM is fucking stupid.
2 It wasn't unexpected.
3 I'm glad the boys found the courage to fight for their rights.
4 The only thing that disappoints me is the fact that Yunho and Changmin abstained.

If they lose, it will be really bad. If they win they will most likely cut the ties with SME. And while I believe they earnestly want to stay together, I'm being realistic. Even if they keep the name and stuff there's no way they can work as a group while under different companies and if they wait until Homin's contract ends it'll take about 9 years. This is pretty sad. Let's hope for the best though.

Mr. Brain

Since I won't be watching the remaining seasons of Scrubs anytime soon, I started watching Mr. Brain. At first it was because of Gackt (starring as "Beautiful Revived Ghost". But along the way it turned out to be quite a decent drama. At first it seemed like a 'Lie to Me' rip-off. Except that it deals more with neurology than psychology and along the way boasts of Japan's latest developments in criminal investigation, which are very impressive indeed. But only the Japanese can put bloody murder scenes and animated chibis into the same drama.

Gackt really freaked me out. He was only on film for a couple of minutes, but it was quite a presense. It's really scary how good he managed to portray a serial killer, not only that, but a serial killer who ate his victim's limbs. It was the very same expression he wears during his concerts, I always thought it looked scary and psychotic, but now...

There are also many other cameo appearances. All the familiar faces, even though I only watched a couple of doramas. Kame, Kato Koyuki and Nakama Yukie. And all of them are killers. I was especially impressed by Nakama Yukie, finally able to appreciate her as an actress, Gokusen so didn't do her justice.

All in all, it's quite a good dorama. I'm not that into detectives, at least not the ones that involve bloody murders and psychopats, but this one is actually good. The plot is really intricate and compelling. I couldn't wait to get to the bottom of each story.

Too bad there are only 6 subbed episodes.

I downloaded this great documentary on the 90's Pop Music. There was a part about the emergence of boy bands and a very curious story told by the producer of Take That:
"We were aiming records at 14-15-year old girls and gay men. We wanted to keep an ambiguity because they were being inrerviewed by gay press and straight press, the brief was to play the mystery card, because the thinking was: if a guy says he's gay the little 14-year old girl is not going to put a poster on a wall ( ), but if a guy says he's straight gay guys are not gonna fantasize about him so noone ever in these groups was allowed to admit they were 100% one or the other, not ever."

Manic Monday

...and so I got carried away.

The movie made me go check on the Manics and, guess what? They've got a new album out. "Journal for Plague Lovers" - damn, the titles are just gettin' better! But actually this is an album made of Richey's lost lyrics. The title makes sense that way. "There was a sense of responsibility to do his words justice," Wire said. I never thought they'd do it. James should seriously get a special award for making those into songs. Track 13 was so grim that he couldn't sing it, so Wire did it instead. Which is bad. I love Nick and all, but he really sucks at singing.
This is not an albut to just listen to though, but to study. It will take time, so I may update once I explore it.

They tried to avoid even bringing him up for years and now the ghosts have been let loose. Scatter the ashes one more time...
The British press is all too happy to gnaw on it and shower Nick with all the stupid 'hows' and 'whys' and 'what ifs'. 14 years later making headlines again and reviving the saddest OTP of all.



I miss being in this small elitist fandom. And it's so sweet to find my own traces all these years later.
In other news: Last year Richey's parents have proclaimed him officially dead. The Manics won "NME Godlike Genius" for 2008. Sean has 3 kids now and Wire has a son, while James still doesn't seem to have any.

So this is it - 20 years. 18 years since Nicky said: "We're not saying there's anything glamorous in getting fucked up, we're not saying there's anything glamorous in being dead, but there's nothing glamorous in having a 20- year career in rock either. That's even more sick." This is how your own words tend to come back and bite at you. Especially when you're Nicky Wire. But I'm glad they're still standing - humble and proud at once.
