I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
This is going to be long...
I've heard about this anime last year and since then I have been pondering whether I should watch it but in the end it was only a matter of time. I did not expect much, really. But it managed to surpass my expectations and pretty much make me a fan. The beginning failed to impress me. The first few episodes weren't very engaging but towards the middle things began to change and soon I was pretty much addicted.
The outline and and the plot are pretty good. The Heroes theme is always popular but they gave it a whole new dimension by making it fully commercialized. Because clearly this is the way it would have been in real world.
The Plot development is quite well-balanced and unpredictable. Surely there are some plot loops here and there but overall I'd say it's all very consistent. The ending was good too. I liked the little speech Maverick did when they cornered him. Because when you actually hear it you realize he does have a point, well, the same way as any dictator did, I suppose. But that really makes you see things are never black and white.

It`s just: One thing that really pisses me off is how Bunny always talks the perfectly formal and polite way even when he's pissed. I understand he's more than 10 years younger and the same goes for experience. But it felt so wrong - even when his best friend was dying he had to use all of them masu without fail. Urgh..
I used to be annoyed by this as well. `Cause really, who in the world would use keigo, while holding your “dying” partner?! And who in this situation would talk about fried rice and long eyelashes, but oh well…
But the more I thought about the fact the more I inclined to the idea, that this is a sign of not only Bunny`s personal detachment and coldness (because he really is far from detached and cold towards the second part of the season, but his speech pattern doesn`t change), but more like this of his social awkwardness in general. This or/and his poor language skills. The latter version is quite ironic, considering that English seems to be an official language in Sternbild, so all the characters are supposed to speak English, not Japanese, but it`s an anime, so we have Kotetsu, who can freely read and write in English, but is unable to pronounce the episodes` titles… And I know this is just for comical effect and so on, but this fact itself gives me headache
It was also stated that Bunny can`t read kanji all too well (in 3th (?) chapter by Ueda Hiroshi, I suppose), and also there is this random fact: “In Japanese, Barnaby is prone to using some rather questionable words in some circumstances, especially around Kotetsu. In ep13 for example, that “dissatisfied look” (when Kotetsu wanted some praise but was refusing to admit it) was “monohoshisouna kao”, literally “a face full of want”. The thing is, that this expression is perhaps most commonly heard in porn, so the 2ch livestream thread was hysterical. That utterance is still fondly remembered today. Less obvious than the ep13 example, but in ep15 when warning Kotetsu about training too much he ended up saying “Or you won’t last until the night.” It was obvious that he meant enduring all those showbiz gigs, but it still sounded slightly odd.” (c) what makes me wonder, if Bunny really understands what exactly he says. If he does, though, that`s absolutely another matter…
Well, anyway, all this doesn`t change the fact, that I wince inside every time I hear Barnaby`s way too official Japanese and, for some reason, when in translations he suddenly starts to speak too informal (though I know what a pain in the ass all these –sans can be). The latter case creeps me out even more, though.
But oh, I`ve flooded more than enough already, again I`m sorry for this, your little note just`ve reminded me of this random thought (headcanon?) of mine and I couldn`t keep away. Sorry!
One of the biggest questions I had before watching the show was: Why the hell do they put Bunny on top so often? From what I've seen in fanart it's pretty much 50\50. Now I watched the whole thing and honestly I still don't get it.
I don`t get it either, but as I understood, they began to ship two main charasters from the very first episodes, when Barnaby`s
ukeishcharacter was mostly undiscovered yet. Apparently, he seemed cooler). Though I still don`t get it, because even those of my friends, who`ve never seen a single episode were perfectly sure, that Barnaby must be on bottom (they also were perfectly sure, that this show really is a shonen-ai, but frankly speaking I can`t blame them). What about 50/50... well, for fanart and doujinshi it`s mostly true, but in fanfiction Tiger often gets more lucky
And who in this situation would talk about fried rice and long eyelashes, but oh well…
Well, that's quite a different story though...
There's a theory about fried rice, dunno if you heard about it....

But your theory is quite interesting. Thank you for sharing)
There are A LOT of innuendos in T&B. I believe it is intentional so that normal people won't think about it too much but fujoshi and such can get what they want as well. I posted a link to a brilliant article that gives a lot of insight into this but it is not a secret that a lot of the people who created T&B actually ship them.

That makes sense) I think they included scenes of both kind that made it possible for the fangirls to decide)

I haven't gone too much into it but after raiding Pixiv I actually found out that Tiger tops most of the time, but it seems that whoever translates doujinshi seems to prefer it the other way round. Not that I mind too much but I do find a huge amount of cross-dressing with Kotetsu rather disturbing.
PS: Excellent English)
I`ve heard about fried rice theory, but thinking about this phrase in this context blows up mine mind

I don`t 100% believe in this myself. It`s just a funny thing to think about. For me Bunny sometimes sounds like a good student, who`ve learned Japanese by books, but never was able to practice it in real life. It`s just occurred to me, that this reminds me the situation with Royal English – we are taught to use it, but in reality rarely who actually speaks that way. And when someone does, and if it`s not some official event, it really sounds a bit out of place.
So "A LOT" that it`s almost too much, but I`m not going to complain). Even though at some point I went to world-art to double-check the genre

TV-troops? Know it, love it, looking there among the first places when get interested in a new series). I know I`m a newbie, but I did my researches all right, can assure you

Probably. Sunrise is very… democratic when it comes to fanservice).

I know the feel. I`ve spent enough time searching, but still managed to find a very few doujinshi, that wasn`t too OOC (and most of them were PG-13 or lower, anyway). What about fics I didn`t go too deep myself yet (mostly simply monitoring kink-meme), but I`ve got an impression that “Kotetsu on top!” is pretty much the tendency there.
PS: Excellent English)
Oh, thanks! Can say the same about you. But it`s nice to know that my professional skills didn`t get that rusty after all!
Well, I am. Especially if random babbling is interesting and makes a lot of sense. I really lack people to talk to here. I'm not that into anime and especially with this one I though it would be OK but I ended up getting really excited over it and the fandom is very abundant and cool.
When I began watching T&B I knew next to nothing about it apart from seeing some fanart, I could never fathom that it's a fangirl's dream come true. So I was in for quite a surprise)

I see. I just never knew about it before)

I'd say they are very smart. The "see it however you want it" policy is very successful. It's kind of like when boybands first emerged in the 90's the members weren't allowed to say whether they're straight or gay thus aiming at both teenage girls and gay men.

Well, there are tons of them, really but my biggest problem is that almost all of them are awfully cliché, there is virtually no character, just the big bad seme and the weak helpless uke who always acts like he doesn't want it. In terms of fics though, I went to Fanfiction.net and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of stuff there. One of the authors in particular caught my attention and she writes a lot and it's really fucking good.
Can say the same about you.
Well, I Majored in English so that's only normal. I just always felt it is easier to say what I want in English than in Russian. It's just nice to see good English for a change, even though it this post I did notice some slips)
Can imagine
But really, I don`t know what is it in this anime, that makes you like it despite all it flaws (and let`s be honest – there are many).

Wise policy, indeed. Sunrise was always clever about such things. Not to mention that this whole idea with commercials and product placement was brilliant by itself.

This is the problem with all doujunshi, not only those with this pairing. I know quite few artists who actually put some thought into their works and not simply produce fap-content.

And may I know the name of this author? I`m mostly an AO3 reader and in general find it hard to find really good fics on ff.net, but if you are ready to give some recommendations and if you say that the quality level in general is decent there, I think I should give it a shot.
Well, I Majored in English so that's only normal.
Heh, the same thing here. Linguist? Translator? Both?).

Not surprising, considering that it`s past 6 a.m. at my place and I still haven`t made it to bed yet
Not sure. I only looked on Youtube and the only AMV I really liked was Hello Again. The rest are boring.
But really, I don`t know what is it in this anime, that makes you like it despite all it flaws (and let`s be honest – there are many).
Well, I'm a big fan of Weiss Kreuz and if you think T&B has many flaws... Yet WK fandom is huge and abundant.
This is the problem with all doujunshi, not only those with this pairing.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That often goes for fics too but thankfully not it this case. I have one doujinshi I really like, it's got good plot and all but it's all in Japanese and I'm too to read it properly)
And may I know the name of this author?
It's Galiko. She writes A LOT thought mostly drabbles and short fics, very varied both in genre and the mood, from innocent and sweet to dirty, really good smut too. You can look here:
www.fanfiction.net/u/3422838/Galiko
Check it out)
Heh, the same thing here. Linguist? Translator? Both?).
Hello, colleague. Translator mostly, I guess. Though technically I can teach and stuff. Currently learning Japanese and it's a real bitch.
Not surprising, considering that it`s past 6 a.m. at my place and I still haven`t made it to bed yet
Heh, it's nearly 3 AM here. My Minor was French but I don't remember shit now.
It was nice talking to you, I should really go to bed now.
Not sure. I only looked on Youtube and the only AMV I really liked was Hello Again. The rest are boring.
I`m quite sure I`ve seen some decent AMVs on YouTube. But again "decent" is a very broad scale for YouTube videos. I don`t usually judge them so harsh as I used to with "professional" AMVs. And I`m pretty sure you`ve seen all the videos i`ve seen, anyway
Well, I'm a big fan of Weiss Kreuz and if you think T&B has many flaws... Yet WK fandom is huge and abundant.
Well, I`ve heard about WK so I`ve got an idea. But again, when I come to think of it, most of the things I like have its share of flaws. For some reason, it`s difficult to wholeheartly love masterpieces. Hetalia by any means isn`t a masterpiece as well (one can hardly even speak about such thing as canon there) but its fandom also sometimes produces really amazing things. Perhaps, that`s what really matters
I have one doujinshi I really like, it's got good plot and all but it's all in Japanese and I'm too to read it properly)
I know what you mean. Somehow almost every doujinshi I`d like to read turns out to be in Japanese and I`m too lazy to read it properly so I have to mostly make up the plot by myself). But I pretty much liked "Somebody`s Hometown" by ituka - both in terms of idea and art (what is a rare case) and it even was translated. And what is this doujinshi you happened to like?
Check it out)
Definitely will! Thank you for recommendation. It`s great timing, because all the kink-meme fills I want to read happen to be frozen or on-going and I might suffer tiger&Bunny withdrawal without new reading material
Hello, colleague. Translator mostly, I guess. Though technically I can teach and stuff. Currently learning Japanese and it's a real bitch.
Hello, hello). Well, as I can see, your specialisation is pretty much the same as mine. I`m mostly translator as well, sometimes teach children in college. Used to study Japanese back in the Institute, but had to gave it up in favor for German (my minor, obviosly. I don`t remember much of it either, but can read and that`s enough in most cases). Now I need French for a job position and am pretty much terrified by this fact
It was nice talking to you, I should really go to bed now.
It was nice to talk with you, too). Write whenever you feel like it - I`ll try to answer as soon as possible. Sometimes it`s just nice to chat about things.
First of all, sorry for late reply. Work can become a bitch towards the end of a week.
It's ok, I understand.
And what is this doujinshi you happened to like?
It's called 'Home', but I can't remember the name of the author. And yeah, I know that sometimes you get great graphic and poor plot or good plot but poor graphics, it's really hard to get both. Yet this fandom is really abundant so there's still a lot of good stuff.
Write whenever you feel like it - I`ll try to answer as soon as possible. Sometimes it`s just nice to chat about things.
It was really good to talk about T&B)) But most of the time I stick to RPS and these days my favourite boys effectively stole all of my attention back. But I'll kepp that in mind.
