I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
While watching Japanorama I noted a couple of films for home watching:
Densha Otoko. A true love story
It’s a supposedly true story of an Otaku falling in love with a real girl. I know there’s also a series starring Misaki Ito, but I wasn’t that curious and I had to consider my mum’s interests. Not to mention that unlike the guy from the series this one was actually kinda cute. Anyway, if I try not to think how sad this whole issue is the movie is nice and brings hope for all the terrified little otakus.
Kamikaze Girls
I didn’t expect much from the film, but it was a pleasant surprise. The main heroine made me feel an unlikely kind of sympathy – a girl obsessed with Lolita style living in the country. And the actress is very pretty. The whole film is full of grotesque and humour highlighting Japan’s most bizarre subcultures – from Lolita to bikers to rockabilly.
A couple of caps. And no, nobody died.
Totally forgot! One of the most amusing things in this movie was the appearance of female Yoshiki. No, seriously, they must be related, right?
Sakuran
Another film starring Anna Tsuchiya. This time a historical film about a girl sold to the brothel becoming a very popular Oiran, which is basically a courtesan. Actually, I don’t know if it can be called historical, since actual historical details are entwined with pop-art. The movie is accompanied by a modern soundtrack and all the colours are incredibly bright and dazzling. I’d say it’s more about the picture than the content. Very classy anyway.
