A girl disguised as a man + a boy who falls for her and questions his sexuality + some pretentious idealistic higher purpose = a popular drama.
So finally I finished watching the SungKyunKwan Scandal.
To be honest, when I first heard about it I really wasn’t looking forward to it. At first I couldn’t even look at Yoochun in those stupid hats without laughing. But I changed my mind. Surely if it’s Yoochun’s drama I’ll watch it even if it sucks, but thankfully that wasn’t the case. It didn’t become one of my favourites, but it certainly is worth watching. Truthfully, despite my reluctance of parting with familiar characters, I think the drama should have been shorter. The peak interest for me was somewhere in the middle and then it got a bit boring. Lately I really don’t dig all those pointless sappy-teary scenes and there are a lot of them especially towards the end. But thankfully there are a lot of comical situations and it’s the thing that makes the drama worthwhile. Apart from the plot I really wanted to watch a historical drama for once. I’m quite fascinated by Joseon clothes and interiors and whatnot.
I don’t really like Park Min Young or her character, but as usual I kind of gotten used to it. As a woman she does look kind of pretty, but as a guy she sucks.
I’m not one of Geol Oh fans, but Song Joong Ki is charming and the chemistry between their characters is undeniable. I’m sure it was designed so subtly to please both slash and anti-slash fans. There was a voting on Mehanata. I voted for the latter, of course.
Which is your favorite couple?
A. Sun Joon & Yoon Hee (37%, 581 Votes)
B. Jae Shin & Yoon Hee (32%, 504 Votes)
C. Jae Shin & Yong Ha (29%, 453 Votes)
And the SunJoon/ Jae Shin awkwardness was made of adorable too:

Another thing is close-ups. I mean, it’s not like I didn’t see Yoochun up close. There are thousands of photos and all, yet this was different. Suddenly he seemed that much more real.
There were tons of positive reviews from the critics and from senior actors and I’m really glad, but I still need to say it: Yoochun did great. The first few episodes he was a bit stiff, but he kept becoming better and better throughout the series. The way he is able to portray emotions with his eyes and face is amazing. Lee SunJoon’s character is pretty boring, so I had to give Yoochun even extra credit for it.
The ending was... kinda lame and hurried. But fun. Oh, and I hope Jae Shin finally saw that Yeorim is the love of his life.
There! All done!
