My Boss My Hero

I'm kinda tired of school dramas so the only reason I watched it was because of Tegoshi. I decided to skip on a few of his darker films such as Shissou so I thought I'd at least watch this one. Overall it was a decent show, I'd say pretty average among other Japanese dramas. The first half was pretty funny and I quite enjoyed but the latter half got kinda boring while the last episode was incredibly sappy and too long.

Tomoya Nagase is kinda hot but it was painful to see him make those horrible faces. Well, at least I now have basic knowledge about TOKIO. Sorafune is a great song too. Also I like Kashii Yu although it was amusing that at the time she was 19 just as other students and this was a year before Yukan Club too.

As for Tegoshi he felt so out of place. It happens with other artists too but normally after awhile I can assimilate them into the show. This didn't happen this time though. Tegoshi makes that angelic face and I’m so not buying it. I mean I try but it’s clashing with visions of slutty Cinderellas, leopard-print bathrobes and numerous complains from other band members about a certain someone swinging his family jewels in the dressing room. Also looking at the show I'm still convinced Sakura-whatever was in love with Makki rather than the girl.

Well, of course having said all that I cried at the last episode, I'm weak like that.

This Autumn has been hell. Winter is cold and full of promises. It's far from great but there's a sliver of hope, pieces of joy here and there. It's the new job, the new fandom and something stirring inside after a long time. One thing I noticed is that recently I began to listen to music, look for new songs. It hasn't happened for years.

This is the first NEWS song I downloaded so far and listen to (apart from Ai Nante but that was just for comparison). It's really catchy and makes me wanna dance. Basically, everything a good pop song should be.

The theme for My Boss My Hero. I really like it. Maybe it's actually time to check out TOKIO, at least some of their stuff.

The 10 coolest things about Shige

1. He's hot.

Anyone who doesn't see it is goddamn blind. He's been cute right from the start but he kept having really awkward stages, due to horrible haircuts and lack of self-esteem. But now he's grown into a really handsome young man. I think he's got an interesting face and his eyes are unexpectedly big. Plus unlike some he's gone through puberty properly and thanks to recent concert pictures you can see he has a great body too. Not the bulky kind, but just the way I like it. I really think this year he looks his absolute best.

2. He's smart.

Well, everyone knows Shige's the smart one. It's an axiom. But he's not just smart, he's someone you can actually call an intellectual. He reads a lot and he really enjoys learning. He knows a lot but is very humble about it. He's got a Law degree too.

3. He's mature.

If you look at the old videos especially you'll notice it. Not only does Shige look older than Tegomass (which he still does) he also acts older. He seemed as old as Koyama while Tegoshi came to see him as an Aniki despite the fact that he's only 4 months younger. Other members even complained that he's like a grandpa - too serious, grumpy and gets tired easily. But that's just teasing. In reality they say he can always look at things objectively so they like to ask him for advice. You can also say he's a little old fashioned in his views.

4. He has gazillion hobbies.

Like, seriously. He loves fishing and photography and cooking and even gardening. He also plays guitar and composes. And he's a legit novelist now. He also used to do some of his members' hair. Tegoshi's especially.

5. He's sensitive. He tries to hide it but it still shows. He claims he's the domineering husband type but everyone else says he's as soft as a furball. He sometimes may sound harsh when talking to Koyama or Tegoshi but it's all out of love. He's actually pretty shy.

6. He's got style. Obviously it's not as distinctive as Massu, but it's there. He can totally pull off that smart look - white shirts, glasses, vests, scarves. Really classy.

7. He's funny. Well, that one may seem obvious but it's not to me. Actually I really don't like a lot of this whole KoyaShige gag stuff like Ittai Dake. But I was pleasantly surprised by La La La Tambourine - I think it's actually pretty funny. I do like guys who don't take themselves too seriously. He also bitches a lot. Now that might not sound like a good thing but I love people who can bitch in a really funny way. Probably because I'm one of them. But, you know, Shige is not an optimist and he has a lot to complain about but I don't find it annoying, more like endearing.

8. He's dedicated. He may not be a great singer or dancer but he loves performing and he really tries his best. Things were never easy for him. He said the first year in the band was pure hell but he got through it, got through all 10 of them. NEWS means the world to him and he's very passionate in doing all he can to make the most out of this band. He can be very focused when he needs to.

9. He's got great taste

He really loves books and movies. The fancy kind. But he never flaunts them, you know but sometimes I can't help but notice. Like one time when he said at Countdown he's been reading "Franny and Zooey" or that time at Soukon when he asked to play "White Riot".

10. He's underrated.

I think Shige's a classic example of what you'd call an ugly duckling. I read his personal interview and I knew it must have but difficult but, boy he had it really hard. If Tegoshi got the spotlight some 4 years after debut Shige probably only got noticed properly last year. Somehow he ended up as the fool, the one everyone makes fun of. Even if they didn't really mean it, it's still bullying. And I know it hurt, it hurt a lot. But he didn't give up and I really admire him for that. He said that he was always worrying over trying to be cool and feeling like he failed but recently he gave up on it. And well, I thing now he's at his coolest.

Girls Next Door S5

So the first project I got at my new job is Girls Next Door which is a show centered around the Playboy mansion and its 4 residents, but mostly just HH's three blonde girlfriends.

At first I was like "This really sucks!" But soon I got over it. I mean I'm always trying to make something out of anything. I think it may actually be the things you dread that you can learn from the most. Though it seemed like this show is really dumb there's always something to be learned. Most of the time it wasn't the show itself, but rather that I'm incurably curious and even a single mention of some subject can lead me to get interested in it. I mean in that one episode where they got to NY I read at least 5 wiki articles - Cony Island, sideshow, mustard... And the episode about the wedding in Vegas helped me learn that white weddings were introduced by queen Victoria, codpiece appeared because at the time men's hose were two separate legs and bikini borrowed the name from the Bikini Atoll, where post-war testing on the atomic bomb had begun on July 1, 1946. I can get into anything.

But this was more of a side dish. The most important thing was that this show really challenged my feministic views. I mean I never really knew much about Hugh Hefner but I have to say he's quite a character. The guy's 87 and still kicking. He got married last year. To a 26-year old. From a feminist point of view he's pretty much created a whole empire based on objectifying women but that's just one way looking at it.

L. L. Clover wrote in his 1974 treatise Evil Spirits Intellectualism and Logic that Playboy encouraged young men to view themselves as "pleasure-seeking individuals for whom sex is fun and women are play things." You can't argue that. But, you know, there were always women willing to become objectified. And looking at Hefner I can't hate him at all. He treats his women very well. I'd actually say he's a kind of a gentleman. Not my kind, but yeah. Just like Dr. Kelso you have to think in terms of him being the product of a very different era.

As for the girls it was hard. I find Bridget pretty ridiculous because she looks 40 and acts 17 but it's not like I hate her. Kendra was the most annoying one. She's basically very shallow, egoistic and acts like a redneck but there were moments when she was pretty funny. And Holly... I guess I actually liked her in a way. She's pretty smart and she seemed very genuine in her feelings towards HH. Obviously I find their priorities very messed up but then I was always interested in things I don't understand.

I only did 7 episodes out of 20 but it was more than enough for me. I think it was a pretty interesting first assignment but I'm also kinda relieved I graduated from it.

My mind is working overtime. Apart from normal analysis some perfectly random things come out. Like this:

- Jaejoong is 4 months older than Yoochun. Exactly. Both are 86'rs.

- Shige is 4 months older than Tegoshi. Exactly. Both are 87'rs.

And I think another interesting thing is that 4 months is not much, you know? In Korea age matters a lot. I will never get their hierarchy system but apparently since Jae went to school in spring he was a year senior to Yoochun so somehow he ended up as the hyung (even though Yoosu have a 6 month difference). On the other hand, in Japan age is not as important. I mean Shige and Koyama act like they're equals despite the 3 year difference. But somehow it feels really natural that Tegoshi began to call Shige Oniichan or Aniki though he doesn't do that anymore.

...oh, never mind me.

I decided to go with the flow and watched the M-ON broadcast. I can't say I was that excited and they cut Scarlet, well, they cut most of it so I guess it was mostly about HD porn.

It was so porny I almost finished the night porn I was writing. But not quite. Well, until next time, I guess.

I can't believe Tora decided to go blond. I’m still not sure how I feel about this. But Tora is still Tora = hot. He can dye it pink for all I care.



They announced two new songs to be released on iTunes on Dec. 4 as well as a new Christmas song and even played previews from them. Yup, I was left deeply unimpressed, least of all by Shou's song. But it was nice to know that it was arranged by Tora. They said that Saga also wanted to help but was sort of rejected.

Me and life, we never got along well. This autumn I've been pretty depressed and I kept thinking "my life sucks so hard". So life was like "Oh, really now?" and I fell ill . I haven't caught a cold in years and this time it was awful, sore throat, runny nose and coughing so bad I couldn't fall asleep. It peaked on one day when I couldn't fall asleep for like 22 hours because I was coughing like hell. It's been about two weeks and I still haven't quite recovered. Haven't even stepped outside in more than a week. It's like that tale about a goat, you know. I can breathe again, motherfuckers!

SUMMARY of Johnnys World 2004

Of course I wasn't planning to write about this but as it always happens I felt compelled to. This short video cause so many emotions and thoughts in me. It's just so typical, you know. Kind of like a school of its own. There are high-school jocks, middle-school nerds and awkward little kids running about.



The video starts with Shige dutifully carrying a nagging Koyama while Tegoshi runs along and joyfully slaps Koyama’s ass. That scene alone speaks volumes.

Nishikido and Uchi are absent. Can't help to remember how Downtown made fun at the Osaka team.

At the center of jockdom are Jin and YamaPi even though it looks like there's at least 30 points of difference in their IQ.

There are also jock wannabes like Kusano. He's really simple-minded so he doesn't really try to put on airs like others.

Tegoshi is at the center of the events. He arrives and leaves with Koyama and Shige but spends most of the time trying to blend in with the cooler crowd. With moderate success. I mean he looks 11 so there's no way he'd be cool but at least he gets a lot of spotlight.

Kame mostly keeps to himself. But he is really nice to everyone and diplomatic. I'm impressed.

Ueda sits in a corner seemingly uninterested by his bandmates stupid antics and is inevitably bullied for it.

Massu doesn't show up much. He seems rather shy but the trademark smile is firmly in place.

As expected Shige is nowhere to be seen, passing like a ghost in the background just a few times. Most likely he found a dark corner to hide in. In one scene (p. 10) Tegoshi tries to flop into a chair ungracefully knocking it over and tripping against a table but Shige loesn't even look up from his book.

In terms of actual music I'm hopelessly hooked on Panic! At The Disco. It's been ages since I was so in love with an album but A Fever You Can't Sweat Out is fucking brilliant. Album of the Year decided. And then I cautiously checked out the 2nd album and was like What The Actual FUck? Well, you can't have too much of good things.

Pacific Tour & LIVE! LIVE! LIVE! DOME PARTY

In addition to the documentaries I watched two older concerts - Pacific and LIVE! LIVE! LIVE! DOME PARTY. The funny thing is I was going to watch the Live Diamond but ended up skipping just that. Well, I'll probably end up watching it later anyway. But I think it's good to first experience how the older shows were before moving on to the latest one.

Overall the concerts were enjoyable. I mean obviously this isn't fucking DBSK so I didn't expect great vocal skills. But I have to say it was still hard to get used to such fail. Tegoshi stands out by a mile, others are very much hit and miss. Or miss and miss. Actually, if I had to give a second place I'd probably choose Yama Pi even though he isn't really a good singer.

In terms of songs it's also pretty hard. I mean with DBSK concerts were enjoyable since they made even boring songs sound good but here this isn't the case. With each new concert they get another couple of good songs so it gets a little better but the problem is there's still only about 1/3 songs I really like to my tension drops too often. So far he songs that get me excited are:

Sakura Girl, Dancin' in the Secret, Sayaendou, Happy Birthday, SNOW EXPRESS, Taiyou no Namida and even Akaku Moyuru Taiyou.

Performance aside there are other aspects. I always knew Johnnies' outfits were ridiculous but I was surprised at just how many bad outfits they manage to change during one concert. It's like, just make 3-4 that are half-decent instead. Right. But there's something I do like about NEWS' outfits. That is how their outfits are very personified every time. Massu's will always have shorter and baggier pants and Tegoshi's will probably have ridiculous skulls on them.

Also one thing that I still can't get over is that not only did the artists have no hairstylist for years they also seemed to wear no makeup whatsoever. I don't even mean stage make-up, but there seems to be no foundation. I mean it's cool and they look good anyway but it's only normal to use make-up when you're performing in front of 50 thousand people.

Pacific Tour

- I guess having member colours can be pretty helpful for identification purposes.
- It seemed quite varied having 3 duos as well as 6 solos. With some bands I'd be glad but not here. Even Ai Nante was ruined by the juniors running around.
- There was just one set of costumes I actually kinda liked, the silver one. Especially as they sing Snow Express.
- One of my favourite parts was the Member introduction song. It was silly but I really love these things.


LIVE! LIVE! LIVE! DOME PARTY

I think the general level has gone up here and the absence of juniors has made wonders to improve the atmosphere. However, I was highly annoyed at the way the concert was produced. I don't even mean the costumes and special effects. I mean the order of songs, the stages used for the songs and just the general flow. There was supposed to be a theme which was 4 seasons and it's a nice idea but it was royally fucked up. I got pretty pumped up at some points esp. Sakura Girl, Dancin' in the Secret and Sayaendou but I often got annoyed at song/costumes, redundant special effects such at tons of tons of fucking feathers and highly inappropriate transitions.

- Tegoshi, wtf happened to your hair?
- Two duos and two solos, huh? You can almost see the cracks running.
- The thing with putting 'Shige' randomly into lyrics is cute though I'm not sure if that's out of appreciation or bullying. Probably a mix of both.
- The amount of Tegoshi/Koyama fanservice makes me uncomfortable.
- The number of encores in this one is ridiculous. Just make one proper one!
- The triple-whatever encore also included the Barefoot Slutty Cinderella song. I'll never get over this.

I really loved the latest Feminist Frequency video. It's been 3 months since last one but it was well worth the wait. I think the video is very convincing and has great arguments. I was especially impressed with the part where she mentions that basically Christianity that the whole Western civilization and mindset is grounded tells us that woman is merely a sequel to man and has been created to be his companion. But instead royally fucked up and got them both expelled from paradise - but that's a whole other story.

Напрмер, наткнулась на перепост содержащий кусочек интервью и несколько фоток. И ведь даже ссылка на ресурс есть, вот только.... во-первых, перевод не мой так что следовало бы сослаться на переводчика. Во-вторых, что меня изрядно позабавило название болга указано следга неверно. Вместо tegoshigeftw - tegoshigewtf... Наверно, только русские так могут.
