I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
So I skipped the concerts where possible and went straight for the Backstage footage to have fun and see how the dynamics within the band really were at the time.
General notes
I felt like the balance within the band was very good, it seemed better than all the bands with 5 members. Basically I guess you can really split NEWS into 3 teams: Ryo-YamaPi, Koyama-Shige and Massu-Tego. I still can't really comprehend that Massu is older than Shige.
However, I was really surprised to see that Tegoshi actually hung out with Shige a lot at the time. And I barely saw him with Massu. Come to think of it, Massu doesn't appear much on any of these 3, even less than Ryo. But anyway, the youngest two were a lot closer than I thought. They were actually very much partners in crime doing stupid pranks and stuff. Though Shige roomed with Koyama they sat together a lot at meals. That, and Shige was Tegoshi's personal hairdresser.
In a more general view I was really surprised at how much Johnnies bands are self-governed. Like, seriously. In 2008 they had a freaking dome tour but it seems like they didn't even have any stylists at all. They seemed to decide all of the coordination, costumes and they even did their own hair and make-up. I haven't seen a single staff around, not even managers. They filmed the documentaries themselves too. How convenient.
In terms of songs NEWS really had it bad, didn't they? Apart from Weeek and a couple more their songs are incredibly lame. As for the vocal skills I don't even know. There were time when I actually thought that they sounded pretty decent. I mean of course Tegoshi stands out a lot and he's the only one who has a proper voice but at times the other guys were pretty good too. Say, YamaPi sounds pretty good at some songs and terrible at others.
But I guess apart from the songs what really got to me was all these Juniors. There are so many of them and they totally ruin the mood sometimes. Like the only time I though they were kinda appropriate was when they sang chorus for NEWS Nippon.
Also I'm not very good at reading people but according to my impression Massu and YamaPi seem very straight. The others are questionable.

One thing I seriously need to learn is differentiating between my attitude towards relationships and the shit j-boys say in interviews. Honestly it seems like VK-boys have quite different views on the matter. I mean I don't really know that many bands well but if you look at A9's interviews their views although not necessarily always consistent are certainly way more mature. The age doesn't even seem to matter here.
But it's a bit of a nuisance. Every time I read another idiotic questionnaire with all the "what's your type?" and "3 rules to become your wife" I really need to remind myself that the boys aren't real douchebags, they just don't seem to know what they're talking about. Says a person with a love life more theoretical than Sheldon Cooper's.

I'm still in the process of writing the major post about the tours but this scene captured my heart completely and utterly. I don't really like Koyama but this dialogue is so beautiful I can't.

2003 Spring to Autumn: Placebo
2003 to 2005: MSP
2005 Autumn to Winter - WK => I'll count that one because I read a whole ton of fics and it was before seeing the anime too.
2005 to 2007 J-Rock (Malice Mizer, Gackt, Laruku, Dir en Grey, etc.)
2007 to 2011 TVXQ=>JYJ
2011 to 2013 A9
2013-2021 NEWS
2021-?? VLDL?
This is approximate, of course, but it'll do.

Kato Shigeaki:
Compare members to UMESHU (*Sake with plums)
Tegoshi would be the PLUMS.
I think that the plums should be Tegoshi. There can't be an Umeshu without plums. There would be no flavor without them. The plums before being used for Umeshu are sweet and fruity like peaches, but plums are usually seen as sour, isn't it unexpected? Their sweet scent is close to Tegoshi. His image is very sweet and cute, he has a strong feminine side. But if you try to bite the raw fruit it'd be very hard, so bitter and difficult to handle! (lol) That's why he's like a plum. Chou chou ALiis 10.2013 Tr. credit: spilledmilk25
This was like the weirdest comparison anyone had to do but at the same time amazingly accurate.

This is my review of the 2 early dramas featuring Tegoshi and other NEWS boys. Even though in Ie Ga Tooi he says like 2 words he's still pretty much the main character, the teller of the story. Both roles are actually very similar in that Tegoshi doesn't really speak and switches between passive-agressive and active-agressive behaviour.
15 sai no Blues
Tells the story of a very reclusive and anti-social kid who's obsessed with flowers and a girl from his school and a very spontaneous and perverted teacher who makes his see the light. I didn't like it very much, really. It felt like a rip-off of GTO and all that blues talks were really lame and far-fetched.

Ie Ga Tooi
Aka that really old mini-drama where Shige, Massu and Kusano are being perverts and Tegoshi is laying on the ground and making "you morons" faces at them. Everyone's acting was surprisingly good I think and I really like the girl.
It's probably the type most people wouldn't like too much. There's not much of a plot, really, and none of the idealism that teenage Japanese dramas always have. But I really love this kind of films. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because it's something I can relate to, something real that makes me think: "this is how life really is". I nearly teared at the ending.

S: Next. Hina-san from Saitama. “What do you think when you see Tegoshi cross-dressing?”
K: Tegoshi’s pickiness about cross-dressing is really impressive.
S: When was the last time?
K: When he went to buy crepes with me for the special DVD?
M: But he also does it in private life, right?
T: Ah, just for Halloween!
S: What will you do this year for Halloween?
T: Well~ This year I might be working so maybe I won’t be able to celebrate~ It’s a shock~ When was the last time? I guess Koyama’s right…
K: Well, anyway it’s cute. I’d like to have a date with him normally (laughs.) The quality of his costumes is really high.
S: Next time you should try to cross-dress as a different type of woman, how about it?
M: Like a quiet, adult woman.
K: A plain girl.
S: Or a rocker.
T: Ah…
S: Something fashionable. With black bob hair.
K: But you know, he only likes high school girls.
T: That’s not true (laughs.)
S: I really don’t understand why one should cross-dress as the type of girl he likes though. Do you want to blend in? That’s too much.
M: Ahahahah!
Everybody bursts in laughter
K: Yes, that’s enough.
M: I guess so.
S: Really, I cannot understand his mentality (laughs.)
M: I know right, that’s an amusing discovery.
K: What do you think, Massu?
M: No, I never thought it’s cute (laughs.) I just think it’s kind of amazing.
Koyama puts the meat in the shabu-shabu pan and immediately takes it out
S: I really hate who cooks just once their food in the shabu-shabu (laughs.)
M: Like his obsession for the make-up and the beauty…

I just had this super-awesome dream where I could fly and do things with the power of my thoughts and then I wake up here feeling broken, with a headache and a sore throat. Reality sucks.

"Hobbies: Reading, guitar, taking photos, fishing, movie appreciation, music appreciation. The hobby that has always been the same is reading. Recently I've been reading Salinger's "Franny and Zooey". I was reading it the whole time backstage at countdown concert when we had free time too." [Shige, Duet 3.12]
Fuck, Shige. Just fuck. Of all the fucking books in the world... I am not ok with this. I really am not.

I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
I have watched most videos on the channel and I have to say I have enormous respect for Anita Sarkeesian. I mean obviously you always have to remember any opinion is just that - opinion. Surely there are certain flows in any theory. But I think the most important thing is that these videos have really given me a new perspective on things.
I probably liked this video the most. I remember even in the 90’s toy ads were like this. Boys’ toys were cool and girls’ toys were a load of pink glittery crap. I did like playing with dolls but I also always hated pink so I always had a problem with Barbie. Anyway. This video really shows everything wrong with toy marketing.
It's easy to get lost in the feeling of indignation feeling that there's a massive conspiracy to keep the patriarchy going. But the most important thing is to remember that these things do not make men happier, they bring turmoil to both sexes.
I have to say all of this really influenced the way I perceive many things. When I watch a movie or a show, play a game or whatever I also involuntary analyze it from the feministic perspective. Not always in a bad way. I mean there are times when I feel the smurfette effect very clearly but I also appreciate it a lot when I see a great female character (such as in Memoria).

I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
I keep seeing dreams with people from my past, it's haunting me. Then again there are hardly any people in my present. I guess it's not really that I miss the people. It's more like I miss the time when I had someone to talk to, somewhere to go and I miss myself that was happy and felt she belonged even for brief fleeting moments. I don't know if I can get any more depressing than this year.

I wrote 2 messages to 3 different people on 3 different sites. I got no replies. I iz sad.

I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
So I finally listened to the album. Three times just to be sure. And I wanted to like it. God knows I did. I'm sure any Jaejoong fan would hit me for this review but I can't help it any.
Basically, the album was very predictable. As soon as I saw the teasers I was like: "Aww, Jae thinks he's releasing a rock album. How cute!" Seriously, honey, leather jacket and more eyeliner don't make you rock. I mean sure he looks good and all but I really wish he had the music to match the looks.
Basically, there's only one song I really like - Rotten Love. Butterfly is not bad as well. Should have been single instead of Just Another Girl. The MV made me laugh too. I mean some other songs are not bad and they seem to sound like rock. Like if you listen to 9+1# is has some nice sounds in it but they just sort of don't add up.
Anyway, my top 3 would be:
1. Rotten Love
2. Butterfly
3. Paradise
And the saddest things is that Jae actually co-composed 2 of these as well as 9+1#. He should write more of his own stuff. Maybe it;s just me but a rock album where songs are donated by different songwriters just seems strange.
It's actually funny now that I remember how I first saw Jae doing Maze and thought "Oh, how I wish he'd do rock!" And he does have the right voice for it too. The problem is there is no rock in Korea. Like I don't know a single Korean song that made me go "This fucking rocks!" Those guys know how to made brain-washing pop songs but not rock. Maybe if he got a Japanese producer or something. But for now it's a no. Well, at least he seems to have a lot of fun playing a rock star at the concerts.
Final verdict: YOU TRIED>
