Almost there. The way to the top is now clear. It's time for the final battle. I don't feel like ending it all today though.

I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
REGRET. The one thing you regret most in your life…

Tora: Going to high school. That was a time when I was just disinterested in everything, I feel like it would’ve been better if I never went. It’s not like I disliked being social, it’s just..I couldn’t talk to my friends about anything. Nobody there liked music like I did, so there was nothing to talk about.

Saga: I don’t really have any regrets, although I must say I kind of wish I had taken baseball a bit more seriously when I was younger.

Nao: See?! You really were just a bench-warmer.

Shou: I wish I had started studying music earlier and more earnestly. I never though I’d become a musician when I was little; now thinking about it I wish I had aimed for (a career in) music from the start.

Hiroto: I really have no regrets. In the world, there’s ‘100.’ ‘100’ is ‘0,’ ‘0’ is ‘100,’ all the pluses are minuses, all the minuses are pluses. Everything is ‘zero.’

Shou: Dude, are you an alien?! You read too much manga! (laugh)

Hiroto: In other words, even if I had something I regretted, there would always be something (good) that came out of it, so in the end, +/-100 becomes zero.

Shou: Get thee to a library.:lol:

Hiroto: The feelings I have are that if I put in 100 (give it my all) then I have no regrets.

Shou: Philosophers do have a saying that ‘everything is alpha and omega, everything is 0 and 100’…if you’re thinking like that, Hiroto, I’m impressed!

Hiroto: And so, the ratio of the circumference and pi will never cross…

Shou: This conversation is making me sweat. (laugh):lol::lol:

Nao: Speaking of life…one picks their own path in life themselves, but isn’t it all really just determined by God? Is that not interesting…?

Tora: Wait, first philosophy now God…? (laugh)

Shoouu!~ You would think that Hiroto's the most normal out of them, but now I see it more and more - he's just as weird as the rest of them.

On Jan. 15th, Alice Nine held a prayer for their new album「”9”」which will be released on Feb. 22nd at the Akagi Shrine in Kagurazaka, Tokyo and did a special live performance in the shrine, dressed in the haori hakama (Japanese traditional clothes). 200 people were selected from 2,000 fans to attend this special live performance, cheering to the 8 songs that were sang.

Before the live, the members went into the temple with faithful countenance to receive purification from the priest, praying for a new hit album.

I absolutely love the idea and the realization. So proud of my boys. They look stunning in hakama! And Shou, aren't we special?))

Once you become a part of fandom you inevitably get weird associations. Like, these two songs are really bugging me now. XDDD

This is an old song from Depeche Mode's very first album.

And this is a cover of that super-catchy online hit. I can't listen to it without thinking of...

I should find 3 more and make a collection!!

To start with, some of my favourite group photos. Only the posed ones. I was going to make it small, but you know how it happens...
These are all from different eras, not many early photos though since I'm not a big fan of indie look - too much make-up, no eyebrows, freaky contacts and slutty clothes)

A9: Songs

I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
I did several fundamental posts but there was one obviously missing. The one about the music. Well, actually it's not that I forgot and stuff, I just wanted to listen to all of their discography properly before giving a verdict. Which is a lot. I still can't recognize many songs and surely my preferences might shift but I think now I can give a proper evaluation.

In general I really think Alice Nine aren't outstanding in terms of music. Most of their songs are pretty average and sound very similar. But I also think they have some real jewels such as GEMINI. Now I want to take a closer look at some of the aspects.

Every time I think I've seen it all, heard it all. But every new band I get hooked on shows me a new different side to music and I think it's amazing.

First of all, I was surprised to find out they had so many songs. They only released 4 albums so far but the trick is they often release singles and don't include the songs in them into the albums. I've had their 1st album on my PC for a long time but I didn't realize they already released about 30 songs before that. They also have only one singe with instrumentals. No acoustic versions either so that means no fillers. I really like that. I mean I always wondered whether people who buy all the singles feel cheated since when the album comes out it has all the single songs anyway. That says a lot about them as a band.

I mean, according to my calculations L'Arc~en~Ciel have released about 133 original compositions in 20 years and Alice Nine has 102 in just 7.

They did re-release a couple of old songs last year which I normally don't approve of but it this case I understood their reasons perfectly. They were the songs often played at concerts and these songs grew and evolved naturally so it seems appropriate to record them in their new form and give them a second life.

Before I never paid that much attention to who wrote what song song. Well, except for Laruku maybe. But now I always check it. I can even identify who wrote the song sometimes. Like, Tora's early songs are often heavy and American-ish, Hiroto's are kind of bursting with life force and ballads mostly belong to Saga. I like to analyse how a person's character is embedded into the song.

J-Rock also introduced me to the awesomeness of having 2 guitars in the band. It's especially amazing to watch live. The guitar battle is probably my favourite part in Budoukan DVD. It's just so cool. Needless to say it made me realize how much I missed guitar solos listening to pop music. Even in songs that I don't like much the guitar solos always stand out. And when I hear one listening to music I try to remember which of the guitarist plays it. Also it was only recently that I realized the rhythm section includes bass as well as drums. This little idea changed my perception of the band structure and the music structure.

Now the vocals. There are very different opinions on Shou's vocal skills. Some hate it and some love it. As for me, I think they're ok. His voice is quite generic for J-Rock and I don't especially like it even now. He received a lot of criticism early on. And yes, I think some years ago he really lacked a lot, especially live. He knew it himself but didn't give up and he worked really hard. I've seen a lot of vocalists but I don't know anyone who worked half as hard as Shou. And I admire him for that. He will never get as good as Hyde or Jaejoong but when you listen to GEMINI you feel he really did it. He found his own niche and up there he's the king. Also even though I'm not that good at Japanese yet I can say that Shou's lyrics are very beautiful. He really puts a lot of effort into them, not just words but also kanji and it's a whole new world I'd love to explore gradually.

I'm sure there shall be more discoveries later on and I'm looking forward to their new releases.
For now my current preferences (by release date):

@темы: meme, WTF?

I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
Shou: Saga wrote "DEAD SCHOOL SCREAMING." Then, "Kokkai no Kurage -Instrumental-" was also Hiroto. "jelly fish" is Saga. And then Tora, Tora, Tora. "Tora Tora Toraaaaaa."

Hiroto: Tora Tora Tora.

Shou: "Tora Tora Toraaaaaa" for three songs. Then the last song is Saga.

Now I can't stop wondering if they were referring to the Depeche Mode song.
*

Sho: When I heard the demo for "Q." for some reason I thought about mitochondria, like a picture of a cell viewed through a microscope. Then I thought, I have a very interesting brain for thinking that up. (Laughs)

Oh, yes you do)

*

Sho: God often decends upon Tora when we're recording. The song didn't sound this acoustic when we first made the demo. I think God came down sometime before I recorded the singing, while Tora was recording the guitar. When I first heard the background track, I was like "what IS this!?" (Laughs)

Tora: I only see God occasionally.

...

*

-Tora, what did you think when you saw the completed version?

Tora: (Disinterested and cool) The completed version? It was cool.

Everyone: (Laughs)

-You're always cool and collected Tora. (Laughs)

Tora: Yes. (Laughs)

Tora's too cool for his own good.

*
Well then, Saga, what new side of Tora did you see?

Saga: Well, the man's like a microwave in the recording studio. You throw something in, shut the door, and when you pull it back out it's something else entirely.

LOL.

Not to mention the Marie-chan futon.

I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
"Jack of all trades, master of none,
Certainly better than a master of one"

I wouldn't really call myself talented, but perhaps I would call myself gifted. I am very much multi-functional, but, as they say "Jack of all Trades, Master of none". I'm pretty good at a lot of stuff, but I'm not outstanding in any of them. In my short life I tried many things, such as: Writing non-fiction, Writing fiction, Writing poetry, Drawing, Calligraphy, Making graphics, Making videos, Singing and Dancing.

There's also other stuff like Photography that I got really interested in since a few years ago which it something not primarily creative but something definitely requiring creative vision. Even stuff like making gifs and screencaps involve a certain degree of creative force. And then there's making custom content for Sims 3. I'm also pretty good at languages and computers.

Sometimes i wonder what would my life would be like if my parents would actually try to develop at least one of my skills. But now there's no use bitching about it and besides in a way I suppose if I devoted myself fully to one of these I'd never had the time to develop the others.

Anyway, for several years after graduating from uni I bitched quite a bit about how I used to be able to do some things but couldn't any more. I seemed to have lost my ability to write poetry or draw and I've lost my motivation to sing and it upset me. But last year I gradually began to feel the need to draw once again and I caved in eventually and I was happy with the result. And several weeks ago I heard a song I loved so much it made me want to sing it. I know I will never get half as good as her, but I still want to try. I also keep dancing at home even if only once in awhile. I do hope to stand on stage again one day, but if that won't happen, oh well, I already had 5 of those so...

My works are never completely original. In fact, a lot of them start as an attempt to amend someone's poor rendition of a good idea. I often feel that my works are patchworks made of different bits created by someone else merely rehashed by me, but that doesn't make them bad or anything. Most of the time I think my works are far from being outstanding but I put my heart ans soul into each and every one of them and they are very precious to me. Plus as long as this world suffers from such a dramatic lack of good taste, self-criticism and common sense I shall prevail.

It's not easy to keep up with all of these but I have to. Lately I realized if I neglect so much as one of these I feel a void inside of me. So for me it's the only way to feel complete and true to myself.

BEAT UP. The biggest injury you’ve sustained so far.

Tora: I haven’t had any major injuries yet, I don’t think.*

Hiroto: When I think of beat-up, I think of Tora’s feet. Tora: I’m always barefoot during lives, so yeah, they get all scraped up. The soles of my feet have gotten really tough lately, I didn’t even feel it when I stepped on some broken glass at home.

Hiroto: They’ve lost their sensitivity, huh.

Nao: Isn’t that just being insensitive? (laugh)

Saga: When I was in a youth baseball league, I threw the balls so hard over time I got like ‘baseball elbow.’ My bones stuck out so much I looked like an alien. Oh, but I got a story you’ve never heard, it’ll move you. There was one time, I was in a lot of pain but stuck it out as the pitcher, and we ended up winning the match!

Nao: Weren’t you just a fill-in? (laugh)
