Might As Well

I don’t wanna feel Blue anymore...
I like the NEWS fandom. It's nice and sweet and supportive and very naive. I don't know, sometimes it makes me uncomfortable how excited and dedicated everyone is. And it's not even just the younger kids, but even those who are in their 20's. I almost start to wonder if it's just me that's so broken. I guess TVXQ was the biggest change for me. I gave too much of myself, invested too much and my heart was broken. Even though I love Alice Nine and I love NEWS, in the end I have a much practical approach.

Sure you can talk lave and trust and dedication but in the end if you look at in in a more pragmatic way it's just trade. They are artists who sell their image and they live from that, from their fans. And we buy it trying to fill in some emptiness inside. I used to be so emotionally involved before but now when shit goes down often my immediate reaction is to emotionally distance myself from it to avoid pain. That's how it was with Yoochunnie too. It doesn't always work and in the end I often deal with it later but I do not feel bad for not empathizing with every drama. They sure as hell don't share mine, so why should I? And I used to disapprove of fans leaving TVXQ, fleeting like rats from a sinking ship to pursue other, younger bands but now I understand.

Idols are people we know at least to some extent, they entertain and inspire us, so it's natural to feel for them when something sad happens and to wish them happiness. But it's also natural to keep a certain emotional distance when there's very little or nothing at all that a fan could do to influence the situation directly. Suffering together is noble, yet it doesn't sound constructive... You probably just know how to draw the line for the areas where your responsibility ends?
/sorry, I'm an example of an immature, simplistic fangirl myself, I can't do logic - and English, apparently %) - but I just couldn't resist writing this comment, too eager to understand your pragmatic point of view better/

Realised too late that although in my head I was only attributing these characteristics to myself, it ended up soundning as if other fans were included :( Terrible wording, and I do feel terrible about it. Sorry for the mess

la_la_lame, I haven't had comments here in years probably so I just write things I need to get off my chest pretty much but thank you for the reply.

I don't even know, it's an emotional mechanism. I was heartbroken because of TVXQ and Alice Nine fandom has betrayed me so I kind of expect the worst I guess. But I feel so out of place when a single gets released or something and everyone is so excited. Of course, it's party becasue I don't really like their music but I think it's probably the other side of that same defense mechanism. I'm kind of puzzled when I see you being able to love every song and every PV they released so much. You really failed that challenge, didn't you? ))

Terrible wording, and I do feel terrible about it. Sorry for the mess
I'm pretty sure you apologize to the fans here, not me. I wouldn't be offended by that. But that just means you're a good person.

A huge relief to know that this babbling didn't become an unpleasant intrusion into your personal space!

I see... It's great that you keep finding reasons for the excitement, and have your own ways to express it. I sometimes feel a bit isolated, tbh, when I'm 'absent' from shipping or, say, discussing how hot the guys are and what awesome lovers they'd make (for me it's all about aesthetical pleasure of a purely platonic sort - well, also admiring other fans' observation skills and creativity), or learning the details of scandals/dating rumours... But, at the end of the day, it's pretty cool to know what an eclectic bunch we all are, just like NEWS themselves :shuffle2:

You really failed that challenge, didn't you? ))
Totally - and if I tried to analyze my love for so many of their songs and PVs, I bet the result would sound very much like 7 Elements from NEVERLAND =))

No way, a polite dialogue is always good.

I get that. Everyone has their own ways to enjoy. My closest fandom friend gets really excited from seeing sexy photoshoots of NEWS or even bands she doesn't know. I don't care for it much but when I see something I know she'd like I show it to her, plus it's a great way of teasing someone. I find joy in being able to predict what someone else likes, that is a sign of real intimacy. In the end what matters is that this fandom is full of respect for each other and most people easily accept that others might not like the same things. That is really how it should be.
